Dani Jarque waxwork presented at Barcelona museum
The life-sized figure will hava a permanent home at the Museu de Cera
A new Dani Jarque waxwork figure was officially presented this Wednesday at the Museu de Cera Barcelona Wax Museum. The collaboration between the museum, the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona Foundation, and Xavier ‘Màgic’ Díaz (Dani Jarque’s former agent and representative for his family), was first unveiled on August 8th at the RCDE Stadium, coinciding with the seventeenth anniversary of former captain’s death; it has now taken up a spot in its permanent home.
The life-sized figure depicts Jarque wearing the shirt and boots from the Espanyol vs. Liverpool game that inaugurated the RCDE Stadium -where he made his debut as captain just six days before his passing.
The piece was created by British sculptor Michael Wade, who has long been associated with the prestigious Madame Tussauds museum in London.
The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, presided over the event, which was also attended by Albert Batlle, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona; Antoni Fernández Teixidó, President of the RCDE Foundation; Ángel Díaz, Director of the Wax Museum; and the player’s parents, José Luis Jarque and Silvia González. They were joined by a large delegation from the club led by ‘Monchi’, Manolo González, Javi Puado, and Marco Otero, with Dolors Ribalta heading the women's team representatives.
Teixidó highlighted “the sense of loss we still feel, even though Dani has become a universal figure,” while Albert Batlle emphasised the example he set regarding “teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship.”
Following the presentation, Màgic Díaz, alongside Puado and Lucía Vallejo, presented armbands bearing the number 21 to the captains of the youth teams.
